When the crime investigator arrives, they usually start with photographing the scene. Then there are a variety of things that happen. There are technicians that will collect samples of various things. The technicians dust and collect evidence only where the crime investigator tells them to.
The crime investigator has a special responsibility for the victim of a crime. Their job is often the victim's last word on a subject. The victim needs the truth to be told. This is a big part of the job for a crime investigator.
Being a crime investigator is not a job for everyone. It is just not as glamorous as some people think. The bad guy is rarely as bad as you want him to be. In the end, a crime investigator puts a lot of people in prison for a long time. It is hard not to see the family members of the newly convicted staring at you like you were the one that committed a crime.
It is tough to watch people go to prison. I understand when a crime investigator needs to take a leave of absence. It is tough to have the investigation of crime be your profession. This is a hard line of work and a good personal support system is good to have.
